COLTAF Announces Grants of $100,000 for Legal Services Programs

The Colorado Lawyer Trust Account Foundation ("COLTAF') has announced a second series of grants for calendar year 1984 totaling $100,000. The first grants from the Foundation, totaling $30,000, were made in January 1984.

COLTAF is a cooperative project of 210 law firms consisting of 1,375 Colorado lawyers in conjunction with ninety Colorado banks and savings and loan associations.

COLTAF has raised in fifteen months of operation nearly $150,000 for the primary purpose of supporting organizations which provide legal services to the disadvantaged. Additional purposes of the Foundation are to provide grants to improve delivery of legal services, promote knowledge and awareness of the law in the community and improve the administration of justice.

Funding of COLTAF is generated through interest paid by the participating financial institutions on trust accounts maintained in the institutions by the member law firms.

Consistent with the first round of grants, the bulk of the August awards were made to the five legal services programs in Colorado which are partially funded by the Legal Services Corporation in order to provide additional staffing and support to those programs. An award of $80,000 was made to these programs on a basis proportionate to the poverty population served by each.
