Notice of Affidavit Requirements

In mid-December, the Clerk of the Supreme Court will mail a form affidavit to registered Colorado attorneys. All judges, as defined in C.R.C.P. 260.1(5), and "active" attorneys must file the affidavit, describing accredited continuing legal education activities completed between August 14, 1978, and December 31, 1979.

In completing the affidavit, individuals should rely on their personal records. Individuals will be expected to provide the following information:

1. If claiming credit for attendance at a program, the affidavit must state the program's starting date, name, location and sponsor, and the number of credits claimed. Claims for attendance at programs which are not accredited will be disallowed. Before claiming credit, individuals should be sure the program is accredited by checking the most recent Status Index published by the Board. A copy of the Status Index is on file with the Clerks of the County, District and Supreme Courts, the presidents of local bar associations, and the law libraries of the University of Colorado and the University of Denver.

2. If claiming credit for teaching, the affidavit must state the program's starting date, name, sponsor and location and the number of credits claimed. Claims for teaching may be made only by individuals who have received personal notice from the Board that their particular teaching activity has been accredited. Other claims will be disallowed.

3. If claiming credit for research, the affidavit must state the publication date of the research, the title and the number of credits claimed. Claims for research may be made only by individuals who have received personal notice from the Board that their particular research activity has been accredited. Other claims will be disallowed.
