971Vol. 6, No. 6, Pg. 971Judiciary Section NewsletterThis is the first newsletter regarding the activities of the Judiciary Section of the Colorado Bar Association. Further newsletters will appear as developments occur to report on progress of matters under consideration and new matters brought to the attention of the Judiciary Section Council. The following matters are presently being considered and acted upon by the Council of the Judiciary Section:

  1. The Council has forwarded to President Daniel Hoffman a draft of a report prepared by the Council's Subcommittee on the Arizona Appellate Court Project chaired by Justice Jim Carrigan and Judge Edwin Ruland with a recommendation that the Board of Governors consider the report and seek its implementation. The report proposes revisions to the Colorado Rules of Appellate Procedure to establish an expedited Court of Appeals process that would result in increasing the number of cases disposed of each year and decreasing the amount of time required for disposition of each case.

    Major innovations included in the report include the establishment of an accelerated docket for handling of cases not requiring a transcript, reduction of the amount of time allowed for oral argument for cases on the accelerated docket and reduction of the classes of opinion from three to two, viz., memorandum opinions and published opinions.

  2. The Council is considering a proposal for establishing better liaison between the bench and bar.

  3. The Coucil has reported to the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors with respect to the Council's opinion disapproving the proposed bill to require the affirmative vote of 60 percent for retention of judges up for election.

  4. The Council has forwarded to President Hoffman a report by Leonard M. Campbell summarizing the results of a poll of the members of the Judiciary Section concerning the proposed Uniform Federal Rules of Disciplinary Enforcement with a request that the proposed Rules be considered by the committee for liaison with the federal judiciary which President Hoffman is in the process of establishing.
