Statewide Lawyer Referral Service

941Vol. 5, No. 7, Pg. 941Statewide Lawyer Referral Serviceby Mildred E. KamineChairman, CBA Lawyer Referral Service CommitteeA Statewide Lawyer Referral Service has been funded by the Colorado Bar Association for the year beginning July 1, 1976. Offices have been leased at 1117 Cherokee St., Denver, Colorado, 80204, and a full time secretary has been employed to handle business.

The statewide service will set up panels of attorneys from each local Bar Association except those which have local referral services. Any local referral service desiring to join the statewide service is requested to contact the service at the above address. Attorneys may contact the service to join the panel. The rules for panel membership follow this article; applications may be obtained from the service.

In establishing the statewide service, Colorado joins 23 other states which already have such services. Statewide Lawyer Referral Service will attempt to publicize the availability of the Service through local papers and by other methods, in an effort to reach the public and advertise the availability of legal consultation services from its panel members at an initially nominal fee.

Because the present Colorado Bar Association funding is for one year, the Service must attempt to become self-supporting. The Service will charge $25 for annual panel membership and request the initial consultation fee of $15 per half-hour be returned to the Service. Panel members will charge their usual fees for additional legal services required. It is hoped such fees will be reasonable and customary for the local areas.

Inquiries from individuals are welcome, as are invitations to speak at any Bar Association meeting anywhere in Colorado.
