1096Vol. 5, No. 8, Pg. 1096Concern for ConsumersOn page 620 of the May 1976 Colorado Lawyer author Jon Kidneigh includes the following sentence as part of his article on "Advertising: The Hypocritic Oath": "The incredible thing about the amendment is that it apparently was approved solely on a political basis as part of the current jockeying for election as President of the ABA and not out of any concern for consumers or attorneys who want to fulfill their duties to consumers." (Emphasis supplied.)

I am no stranger to ABA presidential politics or the House of Delegates (Cf. "Scrambled Eggs at the Palmer House or The ABA State Who?," The Colorado Lawyer 1921 (1975)). I was in attendance at the full debate on the revision of the Code in February. I was among those who voted in favor of the proposed revision.

I do not know the source of Mr. Kidneigh's information on the basis of which he included the quoted statement in his article. I can say that in my own case presidential politics in no way entered into any aspect of my consideration. If presidential politics was somehow a determinant of the vote in Philadelphia, it completely escaped the avid attention I gave to the three hours of conscientious and intensive debate by the members of the House.
