1744Vol. 4, No. 9, Pg. 1744From our ReadersDear Editor:As noted in the CBA Reports section of the August, 1975, issue of the Colorado Lawyer, the CBA expended considerable time and effort in reviewing the criminal justice standards and goals proposed by our Commission. The review presented to us has caused the Courts Task Force of the Commission to modify a number of standards and thereby to present a better product to the State Council on Criminal Justice.

More than half of the 400 courts standards were approved by the State Council on Criminal Justice and those not ratified hopefully will receive approval during the next year. It is important to note that none of the standards are etched in stone and that they will be continually reviewed and modified as necessary. Therefore, the Commission requests a continued interest on the part of the bar associations and will welcome any suggestions for modifications and/or additions.

Unfortunately, the greatest drawback of the standards at this time is that funding did not allow for sufficient distribution. We are attempting to remedy this problem and should have additional copies available within the next two months.

The Commission expresses its gratitude to Mr. William Miller and Mr. David Sorenson for their efforts in presenting this comprehensive review. Mr. Carroll E. Multz, Chairman of the CBA Criminal Law Section, and Mr. John W. Low, Chairman of the Judiciary Section, were also instrumental in the review and have our gratitude.

On behalf of the Courts Task Force Co-chairman, Mr. Justice William H. Erickson and Attorney General J. D. MacFarlane, I again thank the CBA for their outstanding participation. Any questions or comments concerning the standards may be directed to me at: Room 314, 1525 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado, 80203 (303-892-2595).Mark C. Pautler
