Thomas is Public Relations and Legislative Counsel for the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations.On February 17 the Executive Committee of the Colorado Bar Association met to consider the Association's position on current legislation facing the General Assembly. The committee took action on fifteen bills at that meeting, classifying them according to standard procedure. The Association's rating system is as follows: B, aggressive Bar lobbying; C, Bar endorsement; D, no position; E, announced Bar opposition; F, aggressive opposition.

Aggressive Lobbying and EndorsementFive bills received a "B" classification:

---H.B. 1002, relative to district attorneys serving full time and an increase in salary.

---H.B. 1026, concerning new county judges in El Paso, Arapahoe and Boulder Counties.

---H.B. 1031, relative to county judges' salaries on a case load basis.

---H.B. 1032, relative to county judges' compensation.

---H.B. 1033, providing an additional judge in the Ninth Judicial District.

Three bills received a "C" classification:

---H.B. 1054, relative to "loansharking" and providing penalties therefor.

---H.B. 1003, giving county courts jurisdiction in misdemeanor marijuana prosecutions.

---S.B. 1, relative to final decrees and adoption.

No Position and OppositionOnly two proposed bills received a "D" (no position) classification: H.B. 1012, regarding wire tapping, and H.B. 1038, relative to child abuse under the Children's Code.

Five bills, however, received the "E" (announced opposition) classification:

---S.B. 20, abolishing jury trials under the Children's Code.

---S.B. 17, surcharge on traffic fines to finance driver training schools.

---S.B. 1024, central records system for juvenile offenders.
