13.1.2.2 Black Lung

The Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969, and subsequent amendments,^[18] provides compensation benefits for coal miners, their dependents, or their survivors when the miners become afflicted with “black lung,” a chronic disease of the lungs.^[19] Black lung benefits are reduced by state workers’ compensation payments, unemployment compensation, state disability insurance, and any excess earnings under the Social Security Act.
