A. Obtaining Information About Jurors

Counsel’s first purpose in questioning is to find out who these strangers are so that he can decide whether he wants them to sit on the jury. His questions will be similar to those used on a direct examination during the trial. They should be non-leading and open-ended. “What,” “where” and “when” questions will allow the prospective juror to respond based upon possessed knowledge and will enlighten counsel as to the type of person he may be.
