12.6 PROFESSIONALISM AND CIVILITY

In 2008, the Virginia Supreme Court formally endorsed statements of courtesy entitled "Principles of Professionalism for Virginia Lawyers." 634 In his letter announcing the court's endorsement, Chief Justice Leroy R. Hassell, Sr., encouraged "the widest possible dissemination of these Principles." 635 Governor Timothy Kaine noted the Principles in recognizing April 13, 2009 as "Lawyer Professionalism Day" in Virginia.

Virginia's federal courts have also welcomed the Principles of Professionalism. The Western District commended the Principles and the
