11.6 CONTEMPT FOR VIOLATION OF COURT ORDER

The court has the power to punish summarily for contempt and to punish those who violate its orders. ²⁸ The court can punish a juvenile summarily for contempt by confinement in a juvenile detention facility but not a jail. ²⁹ The violation of a court order by a child in need of services (CHINServ) or a child in need of supervision (CHINSup) does not cause the child to be treated as a delinquent. ³⁰ However, if a CHINServ willfully and materially violates the court's disposition order for a second or subsequent time, the court may suspend the juvenile's driver's license or impose a driving curfew pursuant to section 16.1-278.8(A)(9) of the Virginia Code.
