After New Jersey Assemblyman Paul Moriarty (D) introduced a bill to stiffen the penalties against pranksters who make fake 911 calls to get police and SWAT teams rushing off to phony emergencies, he became a victim of one of those hoaxes. Same thing happened in California to then-Senator Ted Lieu (now a U.S. representative) after his bill passed in 2013.
