10 S.C. charities honored as Angel organizations.

Ten S.C. charities have been announced as Angels of 2019 by S.C. Secretary of State Mark Hammond.

The organizations honored exemplify charitable giving in the state, with selections based on a review of financial reports as well as nominated from the public, according to a news release from Hammond's office.

An Angel charity must have devoted at least 80% of its total expenditures to charitable programs; have been in existence for three or more years; make good use of volunteer services; receive minimal funding from grants; and be in compliance with the South Carolina Solicitation of Charitable Funds Act.

The Angel organizations, with the percentage of expenditures spent on program services, are listed below in alphabetical order:

Big Red Barn Retreat, Blythewood, 94.2%

Boys Farm Inc., Newberry, 81.1%

Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity, Columbia, 93.3%

Community Medical Clinic of Aiken County, Aiken, 89.9%

Hopeful HorizonsInc., Beaufort, 86.8%

Lighthouse Ministries, Florence,84.2%
