1. (§10.7) Definition of Natural Watercourse

Numerous decisions in Missouri define and discuss the attributes of natural watercourses. Klokkenga v. Carolan, 200 S.W.3d 144 (Mo. App. W.D. 2006), contains a thorough discussion of whether a watercourse is natural. Characteristics of a natural watercourse usually include:

· a definite channel;

· a current of flow;

· a definite source of supply; and

· an outlet into another body of water.

An oft-cited case for determining what constitutes a watercourse is Keener v. Sharp, 111 S.W.2d 118 (Mo. 1937).
