Utah recently joined Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Maine and Puerto Rico in prohibiting smoking in cars with children inside. "Second-hand smoke in cars can be especially harmful to children because cars are small, confined spaces where children are closer to the smoker and the smoke," according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In Utah, violators stopped for other driving infractions face frees of up to $45, which can be waived if they enroll in a program to quit smoking.
