§ 6.5 AGENT'S LIABILITY TO INSURED

In general, an insurance agent only assumes the duty normally found in any agency relationship. This includes the obligation to deal with the customer in good faith and to follow the customer's instructions. A broad description of an agent's duty to an insured is quoted with approval in Joseph Forest Products, Inc. v. Pratt, 278 Or 477, 564 P2d 1027 (1977):
