§ 5.1 INTRODUCTION

§ 5.1-1 Scope of Chapter

This chapter is organized by first examining the law of family (§ 5.2-1 to § 5.2-7(b)), then moving to the law of marriage and its dissolution (§ 5.3-1 to § 5.4-1(f)). The rights and responsibilities pertaining to marriage and children is almost, but not entirely, a matter of state law. Thus, most of the material in Family Law (OSB Legal Pubs 2013), Juvenile Law: Dependency (OSB Legal Pubs 2017), Juvenile Law: Delinquency (OSB Legal Pubs 2019), and Administering Oregon Estates (OSB Legal Pubs 2012 & Supp 2018) will apply to foreign nationals without change.
