§ 4.3.7.2 The Intraplan Claims Process. One of the vitally important components of the ERISA dispute resolution process is ERISA Section 503's requirement for an intraplan claims procedure.¹⁷⁵ Although the statute requires that the claims procedure exist, the statute is silent on the actual requirements for that procedure. The United States Department of Labor has promulgated extensive regulations setting forth minimum requirements for the claims procedure to comply with the statutory requirement.¹⁷⁶
