§ 37.2.6 Disciplinary Actions: General. The board on its own motion may investigate any evidence that appears to show a physician may be medically incompetent or may have committed unprofessional conduct. A.R.S. § 32-1451(A). A determination of whether a physician is “medically incompetent” is based on a variety of factors, including whether the physician lacks medical skills or knowledge to a degree likely to endanger the health of patients and, in light of other indications of medical incompetence, a physician’s failing to obtain a score of at least 75% on the written special purpose exam. A.R.S. § 32-1401(18)(a), (b).
