§ 26.01 Introduction

Real evidence (e.g., murder weapon) must be identified as a prerequisite to admissibility. The term "real evidence" is used to describe tangible evidence historically connected with a case, as distinguished from merely illustrative evidence, such as a model.1The latter is often called demonstrative evidence, although there is no agreed-upon terminology in this area. In addition to models, demonstrative evidence includes diagrams, maps, blueprints, sketches, in-court exhibitions and demonstrations, and jury views.
