§ 25.1.2 Superior Court Special Actions As Distinguished From Appellate Court Special Actions. While special actions in both superior and appellate courts are governed by the RPSA, the respective procedures differ. For example:

1. As a general matter, Rules 2, 4, 5, and 6 govern the procedure for statutory special actions in superior court. In contrast, Rule 7 addresses appellate court special actions and does not apply to superior court special actions. See Rash v. Town of Mammoth, 233 Ariz. 577, 580-81, ¶ 6, 315 P.3d 1234, 1237-38 (App. 2013).

2. In the superior court, a special action is initiated by filing a complaint, while, in the appellate court, a special action is initiated by filing a petition. Compare RPSA 4(d) with RPSA 7(a).
