§ 1.1.13.1 Voter Initiative to Raise the Minimum Wage. After the legislature repeatedly declined to raise the minimum wage, voters approved an increase in a 2006 initiative measure. Proposition 202, referred to as the "Raise the Arizona Minimum Wage for Working Arizonans Act," gave the Industrial Commission the authority to enforce and implement the Act. 261 As of January 1, 2016, Arizona's minimum wage rose to $8.05 per hour, which equals $322 per 40-hour week or about $16,000 per year (based on fifty weeks).
