§ 1.1.13.1 Voter Initiative to Raise the Minimum Wage. After the legislature repeatedly declined to raise the minimum wage, voters approved an increase in a 2006 initiative measure. Proposition 202, referred to as the "Raise the Arizona Minimum Wage for Working Arizonans Act," gave the Industrial Commission the authority to enforce and implement the Act. ²⁶¹ As of January 1, 2016, Arizona's minimum wage rose to $8.05 per hour, which equals $322 per 40-hour week or about $16,000 per year (based on fifty weeks).
