Arizona has no statutes specifically protecting gay, lesbian, transgendered, or bisexual individuals. Efforts by Democratic legislators to introduce bills on point have been ignored. However, as the state approaches the third decade of the 21st century, some local governments have taken the lead in providing protection for workers based on gender identity or expression or sexual orientation.250
