* NDIA's System Engineering Division presented Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Stephen Welby with its Lt. Gen. Thomas R. Ferguson, Jr. Systems Engineering Excellence Award Oct. 25 at its annual conference.

The award is given to an individual who demonstrates outstanding achievement in the practical application of systems engineering principles, promotion of robust systems engineering principles throughout the organization, or effective systems engineering process development.

Welby's contributions have demonstrably helped achieve significant cost savings due to new and enhanced processes, procedures and concepts, and increased mission capabilities.
