A Vermont state court has ruled that the use of government vouchers to pay for private religious schools violates the doctrine of separation of church and state. Tuition payments from a school district to pervasively sectarian high schools would have the effect of a direct subsidy to religious schools. This act is a violation of the US and Vermont Constitutions. This is to avert the creation of a possible link between church and state.
