2012 Utah Legal Elite [TM].

For nearly 10 years, Utah Business has published the Legal Elite list showcasing the state's best-of-the-best lawyers. Our goal has been to publish a meaningful and credible Legal Elite list--a list that Utah's business leaders can look to as a reliable directory of the state's top lawyers.

To compile the list, we started by mailing more than 5,000 ballots to state bar members, asking them to vote for peers whom they deem to be Utah's top lawyers. Lawyers were permitted to vote for up to 10 lawyers: five from within their firms and five from outside their firms. Votes were counted and lawyers with more than eight votes qualified for inclusion.

Prior to finalizing this year's list, Utah Business' editorial team sought feedback from senior attorneys throughout the state. We wanted to know: What are we doing right? What are we doing wrong? How can we make the Legal Elite list even more meaningful and credible? We listened and put their feedback to work. The major changes we enacted are: 1) Each lawyer on the list must have at least five years of practice 2) Lawyers with five to eight years of practice will be listed as "Up and Coming" We believe these changes will help make the 2012 Legal Elite even more meaningful and credible.

Utah Business received thousands of responses, and the resulting top vote-getters are alphabetized within the areas of specialty listed. Your peers have spoken and Utah Business is proud to present the 2012 Utah Legal Elite.
