A black belt in karate and self-described "golf fanatic," Bill Black started hitting the links as a CSU student in the late 1970s. In more recent years, he developed a pet peeve. "When they went to soft spikes, I got so irritated cleaning the dirt out," said Black, who subsequently took it upon himself to invent the Samnic, the world's first motorized golf-spike cleaner.
