Like most everyone I know, I recently saw the movie Lincoln with Daniel Day Lewis in the title role. I couldn't help but think about this incredible book I'd read that chronicled Lincoln's rise through the primaries, into the limelight as presidential candidate, and his subsequent presidency. After his election, Lincoln did what few new leaders would do--he staffed his cabinet with the people who probably disliked him the most--his presidential rivals.

Goodwin's Pulitzer Prize-winning contribution to President Lincoln's legacy is a book every business leader should read.
