Juvenile detention's deficiencies in living space, health care, security and control of negative behavior are widely documented. Overcrowding and lack of funding compromise the ability of staff to work effectively with detained youths. Additionally, traditional building design approaches have exacerbated these conditions in many jurisdictions around the country.
