The 2008 general election is still 11 months away, but it may not be enough time for voters in West Virginia's largest cities to really get to know the candidates running for the House of Delegates. Running as a Group The state Republican Party has been trying to change the makeup of the delegate districts for some time. State Democratic Party Chairman Nick Casey said he doesn't believe straight-ticket voting or multiple-member districts have anything to do with the Democratic Party's success in winning seats in the Legislature for the past several decades.

The 2008 general election is still 11 months away, but it may not be enough time for voters in West Virginia's largest cities to really get to know the candidates running for the House of Delegates.

That's because almost every large city in the state - from Huntington to Morgantown, Parkersburg to Beckley - is served by delegate districts with multiple members. As a result, when voters are trying to learn who will be representing them, they don't just have to learn about a single Democrat and Republican candidate. They need to learn the opinions and beliefs of six, eight or 10 candidates.
