The state of Connecticut decided to construct a new 500-bed correctional facility in Suffield, CT, in 1990. However, the facility's designers faced several technical problems primarily because the site intended for the structure was situated on wetlands. A discussion of some of the environmental problems faced by the designers as well as their solutions is presented. A description of the correctional facility is also presented.
