Jackson County Circuit Judge Orders Closing of Kansas City Funeral Home

Summary


A Kansas City funeral home must shut down by March 11 because of issues surrounding its care and refrigeration of corpses, a Jackson County Circuit judge ruled Tuesday.

The State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Home Directors in December revoked the licenses of Marts Memorial Services. The funeral home owner then sued the board, citing constitutional and due process issues. Jackson County Circuit Judge J. Dale Youngs initially put a hold on the revocation when in January he issued a stay, allowing the business to operate while simultaneously appealing the matter to the board.
