At about 11 a.m. on July 26, 2009, David Ericson was driving north on Highway U-59 in Franklin County, Kan., when a southbound Ford Escape driven by Diana Cook crossed the centerline. The vehicles both were traveling at highway speeds. Both drivers were injured, and the collision totaled both vehicles.
