A state law validating only marriages between men and women doesn't violate the constitutional rights of same-sex couples, Maryland's highest court has ruled.
The plaintiffs were a group of 19 gay men and lesbians who sued after being denied marriage licenses by various clerks of Maryland courts. The plaintiffs claimed the statute relied upon to deny their licenses discriminated on the basis of sex and violated the state's Equal Rights Amendment.See the full content of this document
