In an effort to learn more about potential health risks to workers aiding in the Gulf Coast oil spill cleanup efforts, House lawmakers have asked Exxon Mobil executives for documents discussing health effects experienced by workers who responded to the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Dozens of workers who have been out on the water working on the Gulf oil spill cleanup effort have complained of flu-like symptoms, including respiratory problems, headaches and nausea. Lawmakers are concerned that the problems may be caused by the burning of crude oil, oil fumes or the dispersants used in the Gulf to break up the oil.
