Study conducted by the International Association of Business Communicators - Section 2: Dealing with Today; Looking Back from the Future

The International Association of Business Communicators' Research Foundation recently conducted a study investigating the role of communication in organizations. The study, entitled 'Excellence in Public Relations and Communication Management,' involved 204 CEOs, 280 business communicators and 3,249 employees of 225 companies in the US, the UK and Canada. Results of the study showed both CEOs and top communicators reporting their communication departments to give a high return on investment. However, the two groups differ in their perception of the role of business communicators in the organization. CEOs look at communicators as media relations experts and as senior advisers on communication matters, while the communicators themselves see their role as instruments in reaching the public and as managers of the communication function.
