The Dauphin County, PN, Prison has implemented the Life, Attitude, Skills, Educational Retraining (LASER) project in Jan. 1994 which aims to change criminal behavior by altering lifestyle patterns. This unique program treats the 'whole' individual and skills are continually reinforced after graduation. The individual's quality of life improves and reduces in-house disciplinary infractions and recidivism due to skills learned. The project has developed a set of curriculum guides being used by more than 30 institutions in Pennsylvania.

LASER treatment changes criminal behavior.

The LASER (Life, Attitude, Skills, Educational Retraining) project is a new and innovative 13-week intensive program that began in January 1994 with a three-year federal grant. Its goal is to change criminal behavior by modifying lifestyle patterns. The unique aspect of this program is the treatment of the "whole" person and, upon graduation, the continual reinforcement of skills through support groups while incarcerated, on parole or on release.
