In Jefferson County Circuit Court, Roberts Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Murder of Friend

Summary

There were no outbursts from family members at the sentencing hearing of Christopher "Ralph" Roberts of Festus, who was convicted of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the beating death of John Clifford of Afton. On Aug. 31, Jefferson County Circuit Judge Gary Kramer sentenced Roberts to 30 years in prison for the murder and 10 years for armed criminal action, to be served consecutively.

Following the reading of the jury verdict in June, Roberts' sister Jennifer Davis of Coulterville, Ill., lunged at Assistant Prosecutor Rebecca Grosser, injuring her ankle. Davis now faces a third-degree assault charge. Recently a motion to disqualify the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's office in that case and appoint a special prosecuting attorney was denied by Associate Circuit Judge Darrell Missey.
