Commitment to excellence and involvement earn Gerald R Weinstein, CPA, Ph.D. Outstanding Ohio Accounting Educator Award.

Gerald P. Weinstein, CPA, Ph.D., is the 2009 Outstanding Ohio Accounting Educator. The award is presented annually by The Ohio Society of CPAs and the American Accounting Association (AAA) Ohio Region. Weinstein received this prestigious award at the annual AAA Ohio Region awards ceremony in May and was also recognized at OSCPA's 2009 Members Summit & Annual Meeting in June

Weinstein is chair of the Department of Accountancy at John Carroll University's Boler School of Business, where he has been teaching for 21 years. He has taught a wide range of courses on financial accounting at the undergraduate and graduate levels, he also teaches introductory courses, advanced financial accounting and the university's managerial accounting class in the MBA program.

"Not only is he one of our most popular faculty members," said Roland L. Madison, CPA, Ph.D., professor of accountancy at John Carroll, "he is also one of the most versatile teachers we have in the accountancy department."

Weinstein is also a gifted course developer, recently developing and teaching a course in Accounting and Tax Issues for Nonprofit Managers.

Weinstein has a long track record of involvement with students and the accountancy profession. He serves on The Ohio Society of CPAs Executive Board and as a member of the Society's Council of Leaders. He is past chair of the AAA's Shared Experiences Committee, a group that presents various panel presentations at AAA meetings throughout the U.S., and he is a past president of the Ohio Region of the AAA.

He is also active in his community, serving on the board of directors of The Montefiore Nursing Home in Cleveland since 2006, and as a past board member of the Cleveland Food Co-op.
