Inmate transportation poses problems that can easily be resolved by taking precautions in three main areas: inmate supervision, vehicle and travel route preparation, and transport policy and staff training. Inmates should have tamper-proof identification with all pertinent data, should be restrained and a methodology for special inmates should be prepared. Vehicles should be maintained. All personel involved in transport should know the routes. Training must be ongoing and extensive.
