Customer focus, process optimization, leadership, and knowledgeable and collaborative management are the principles of quality improvement. Applying these principles within the juvenile correctional system is an innovation that benefits both staff and clients. Quality improvement techniques may help increase the number of well-trained, motivated employees by directly involving them in designing and assessing the programs with which they are involved. Quality improvement also allows facilities to identify and improve inefficient procedures and poor outcomes that may contribute to continued custody and longer stays.
