Gov. Jay Nixon commuted the sentence of Richard Clay, who was scheduled to be executed early Wednesday.
"After an exhaustive review, I am convinced of Richard Clay's involvement in the senseless murder of Randy Martindale and find that the evidence clearly supports the jury's verdict of murder in the first degree," Nixon said this afternoon in an e-mailed statement.See the full content of this document
