Summary


Radio ads using the familiar "ninety-nine, ninety-nine" refrain were misleading and damaged another company that used the same refrain for more than a decade.

Those conclusions were reached by a St. Louis County jury March 11 in a trial over unfair competition between American Equity Mortgage Inc. and the mortgage company started by Ray Vinson Jr., the former radio voice for American Equity. The jury unanimously found for American Equity and awarded $300,000 in damages.
