WASHINGTON - Citing the economic climate's direct impact on the nation's court systems, federal judiciary officials urged lawmakers to increase the budget for federal courts by nearly 9 percent in fiscal 2010.

Speaking before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, 6th Circuit Judge Julia Gibbons said the budget boost is necessary for the judiciary to make it through the perilous financial climate.
