The Food and Drug Administration is reexamining its policy on how to tell the public about safety concerns involving foods, drugs, medical devices and other regulated products, the agency's commissioner told an FDA advisory panel.

"How we communicate what we do is as important as what ... we are doing," said Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach, speaking at the panel meeting. "Quite candidly, if one looks at external data there has been an erosion of trust."
