Mazur has been appointed to head the Office of Federal Financial Management under the 1990 Chief Financial Officers Act and expresses optimism over chances to reform the waste, mismanagement and fraud in government spending. Ed Mazur versus the behemoth.

Few jobs sound as daunting as the one facing Edward J. Mazur, recently appointed head of the Office of Federal Financial Management-in effect, the government's first chief financial officer. In his new position, created under the 1990 Chief Financial Officers (CFO) Act, he is charged with bringing order to the federal government's monstrously complex and overlapping accounting and financial .reporting systems. As a CPA experienced in the ways of government, Mazur well understands the enormous task he faces, yet remains optimistic that real changes can and will be made.
