To Developing effective leadership training.
Historically, the appointment to warden or other senior-level post in a correctional system was the end result of several decades "in the trenches." By the time leaders took on their new roles, there was not much that they had not seen or experienced. In addition, correctional officials could often act relatively independently--as institutions operated with far less scrutiny and oversight than they do today. However, the internal and external demands on these leaders have increased, and correctional administrators must now be aware of a host of ways the criminal justice system impacts greater society. They must understand the role that their institution plays in their community; the effect of different stakeholder groups on their organizational mission; the importance of their staff in achieving the organization's goals; and the impact of providing a safe and secure correctional environment where inm...
