It has been a tumultuous couple of years for Crystal City, first, with the controversy surrounding the construction of the iron ore smelter at the former PPG site and then with the release of the state audit last year. Two mayoral candidates have their own ideas about how to move the city forward. Running for the four-year term of mayor of Crystal City are incumbent Mayor Thomas V. Schilly and Jack Ginnever. Schilly: Even in these difficult economic times, Crystal City is financially sound, and this was confirmed by the state auditor at the public meeting on the city's audit. The city is working with a tight budget and we are ever vigilant at being able to keep providing our current services to our citizens.
