As lawmakers prepare to vote on a plan to overhaul the nation's health care system, the legal reform advocacy arm of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce called for stronger medical malpractice reform efforts at its annual summit.

At the annual Legal Reform Summit hosted by the Chamber's Institute for Legal Reform, Chamber officials, lawmakers and other speakers said that without curbing medical malpractice suits, doctors will continue to practice defensive medicine and health care costs will continue to rise.
