A state law authorizing subrogation of a Medicaid recipient's tort settlement complies with federal Medicaid law, the North Carolina Supreme Court has ruled.

The state statute allowed Medicaid to be fully reimbursed for the plaintiff's previous medical expenses only where that amount is one- third or less of the plaintiff's settlement.
